Settings → Inspection Templates is where you build the checklists your team fills out before and after a job. Open it and you'll see two lists side by side: Pre-install Templates and Post-install Templates.
Pre-install vs. post-install
SalesThumb splits templates into two kinds: pre-install, used when starting a job, and post-install, used when completing one. Each kind has its own independent list — a template you build for pre-install won't show up in the post-install column, and vice versa.
If you haven't created a custom template for a given kind, that column just shows "No custom templates — using built-in default," meaning SalesThumb falls back to a built-in checklist rather than leaving the inspection blank. You only need to build a template here if you want to override that default.
Any template can be marked default for its kind — it gets an amber "Default" badge with a star on its row. That's just a checkbox on each template individually, so the page doesn't stop you from checking it on more than one template in the same column. If you want one obvious default, uncheck it on the other templates in that kind before (or after) you save this one.
Building or editing a template
Click New Template (or Edit on an existing one) to open the editor:
- Name — required. The Save Template button stays disabled until you type one.
- Kind — Pre-install or Post-install, as a two-button toggle.
- Default checkbox — its label text updates to match whichever Kind you currently have selected ("Set as default template for pre-install inspections" or "...for post-install inspections"), but the checked state itself doesn't reset when you flip Kind. If you check it while on Pre-install and then switch to Post-install before saving, you'll save a post-install template marked default — worth double-checking before you hit Save.
- Checklist Items — each item is a text label plus a three-way OK / Issue / N/A control. Whichever option is highlighted is that item's default answer; if you never touch the control, it's treated as OK. A brand-new template starts with one item already in place ("New item," defaulted to OK), and Add item appends more of the same, also defaulted to OK until you change them.
There's no drag-and-drop reordering — items stay in the order you add them — and there's no per-item description, photo requirement, or "required" flag here; it's just a label and a default status.
Deleting templates and items
Both the trash icon on a template's row in the main list and the trash icon next to a checklist item in the editor delete immediately when clicked — there's no confirmation dialog. Double-check before clicking if the template or item is still in use.
What this page doesn't control
This screen only edits checklist content and which template is the default — it doesn't turn inspections on or off for your shop, and it doesn't control whether a signed post-install inspection is required before a job can close. That's governed elsewhere, not on this page.
