The warranty PDF is one of the most-shared documents your shop produces — it goes to every customer, sometimes to their insurance carrier or a future buyer of the vehicle. There's no self-serve template or branding editor in SalesThumb today — the certificate has a fixed layout. This article covers exactly what's on it, what's on the public verification page, and what you still need to handle yourself (mainly: your actual legal warranty language).
What's on the certificate PDF
Every registered warranty auto-generates a one-page PDF certificate with:
- Shop name, phone, and email (footer)
- Customer name
- Vehicle year/make/model
- Film/product description and windows covered, if entered at registration
- Install date and warranty period (or "LIFETIME")
- Installer name, if entered
- A certificate number
- A QR code + "verify online" link
The warranty-language paragraph on the certificate is fixed, generic coverage wording ("warranted against bubbling, peeling, cracking, and color change... when installed according to manufacturer specifications"). It does not currently pull in your shop's own legal terms, your tier's Coverage text, VIN, address, exclusions, or a claim process — none of that is on the PDF itself today. There's no logo on the PDF, no color/branding options, and no field toggles — even though you can upload a shop logo at Settings → Appearance, that logo shows up on the customer portal and the public verification page below, not on the certificate itself.
What's on the public verification page
The QR code links to a public page at salesthumb.com/warranty/{certificate-number} — a stable, always-current confirmation page (not a downloadable PDF). It shows your shop's logo, the vehicle, coverage status, and how much time is left (or "Lifetime"). Like the PDF, it doesn't currently show the tier's Coverage text. From this page, customers can also file a warranty claim, which lands in your Warranties → Claims queue.
The PDF itself isn't on this page either. Staff can grab it directly from the warranty's detail page in the app ("Certificate PDF" button) or send it to the customer with "Email certificate" — either way it's a manual step on your team's side. There's no self-serve download for the customer on the public page or in the customer portal.
Where your legal warranty language actually lives
Since the app doesn't print custom coverage language on the certificate yet, most shops handle the actual legal terms one of two ways:
- Coverage text on the tier (Warranties → Tiers) — a free-text field saved with the tier and snapshotted onto every warranty registered on it. It's on file with the warranty record even though it isn't shown to the customer on the PDF or public page today.
- A separate document you hand off — many shops still print or email their own warranty-terms document (from their POS, a PDF template, or their film/coating supplier) alongside the SalesThumb certificate, especially while custom language isn't rendered in-app.
Whichever you use, tier-specific language still needs real thought. Some common patterns shops use as a starting point (not legal advice — confirm with a lawyer or your supplier):
### Window tint - Lifetime warranty: "Warranted against fading, peeling, cracking, bubbling, delamination, and adhesive failure for as long as the original purchaser owns the vehicle," plus exclusions for damage from glass replacement, abrasive cleaners, etc. - 5-year: the same, capped at 5 years from install date. - Economy tiers: manufacturing defects only, not durability.
### PPF - Be specific about what the film manufacturer covers (e.g. a 10-year manufacturer warranty) vs. what your shop's install warranty covers. - Be careful with self-healing claims — avoid "scratch-proof"; describe the actual behavior and conditions instead.
### Ceramic coating - Multi-year coating warranties typically need to specify maintenance requirements (e.g. annual maintenance wash) and note that non-compliance can void coverage. - Longer warranties from some coating brands require registering the install with the manufacturer.
### Vinyl wrap - Manufacturer warranty programs (e.g. 3M MCS) typically require a certified installer and separate registration with the manufacturer — that registration isn't something SalesThumb automates today.
