Your service catalog is the list of things your shop sells — tint packages, PPF, detailing, removals — with a name, price, and duration attached to each one. Every quote and invoice pulls its line items from this catalog, so getting it set up right up front saves you from typing the same price by hand every time you write a quote.
Where to find it
Go to Settings → Services. You'll land on the Services page, with a New Service button in the top right and a Show archived toggle next to it. Above the table you'll see three summary tiles — Total Services, Avg. Price, and Avg. Duration — calculated across your active (non-archived) services, so archiving something later never skews the averages.
Add a service
Click New Service. A dialog opens titled "Create a service," with the note "Services can be quickly added to quotes and invoices." Fill in:
- Name* — required. The placeholder example is "e.g. Ceramic Tint — Full 7"; use whatever you'd want a customer to see on a quote.
- Description — optional free text. Leave it blank if you're not sure yet — you can generate one later (see below).
- Category* — a dropdown with six options: TINT, PPF, DETAIL, REMOVAL, VINYL_WRAP, OTHER.
- Default Price* — enter dollars and cents (e.g. 250.00); SalesThumb converts and stores it in cents internally. The price has to be greater than $0 at creation — leave it blank or at zero and you'll see "Please enter a valid price" and the form won't submit.
- Duration (min) — how long the job takes, in minutes. Defaults to 60.
- Taxable by default — a toggle, on by default. The helper text explains it best: "Turn off for labor or services that are tax-exempt in your state. You can still override per-line on a quote."
Click Create Service to save. It shows up immediately in the table and is available to add to quotes and invoices right away.
Choosing a category
Category drives how a service is color-coded and grouped throughout the app — Tint (blue), PPF (violet), Detail (emerald), Removal (rose), Vinyl Wrap (amber), and Other (neutral). Pick whichever matches the job. If nothing fits cleanly, use OTHER rather than guessing — there's no "uncategorized" option, category is required.
Editing, archiving, and reactivating
Click the pencil icon next to any service to reopen the same dialog, now titled "Edit service," pre-filled with its current values. Change what you need and click Save Changes. You can also flip the Taxable switch directly from the table row without opening the dialog at all.
To retire a service without losing its history, click the archive icon. You'll be asked to confirm: "Archive '[name]'? It will no longer appear in this list or be selectable on quotes and invoices." Archived services are hidden from the list by default — turn on Show archived to see them (they show at reduced opacity with an "Archived" badge), and click the restore icon to bring one back into active use.
Let AI draft a description
Any service without a description shows a small "AI · Write description" link under its name in the table. Click it and SalesThumb drafts a short customer-facing description using the service's name, category, price, and duration as context. Review the draft, then Apply it, Discard it, or Regenerate for another attempt.
Who can do this
Adding, editing, or archiving services requires the "manage pricing" permission on your team account. If a teammate doesn't have it, they won't be able to create or edit catalog items or change prices — ask a shop admin to grant access if you hit a wall here.
If your shop is part of a multi-location franchise group, your franchisor may also lock default pricing centrally. When that's the case you'll see a "Pricing locked by HQ" badge at the top of the page, the New Service button is disabled outright, and the Default Price field is disabled when editing an existing service — though name, description, and taxable status stay editable either way.
