The Notifications page (Settings → Notifications) is where you control every customer-facing message SalesThumb can send — SMS and email templates, provider connection status, and the standing automations that generate messages on their own (service reminders, maintenance-due reminders, missed-call text-backs, and the sales playbook's own email alerts).
Message templates
Each row in the Message Templates card shows the template's name, a channel badge (SMS or EMAIL), and a switch to turn it on or off. Click the pencil icon to open the edit dialog. Email templates get an extra Subject line field that SMS templates don't have, and SMS templates show a running character count (e.g. "142/160 chars") right next to the "Message body" label, just above the text box — that counter is just a guide, though; nothing in the editor stops you from typing a longer message and saving it.
Before you rely on a template, check for the amber "Not yet automated" badge. SalesThumb only fires messages automatically for seven kinds of events: booking confirmations, the 24-hour and 1-hour reminders, ready-for-pickup notices, quote-sent, payment-received, and follow-up. Toggling any other template "Active" or rewriting its copy saves your change, but nothing sends automatically — the badge exists specifically so you don't mistake "saved" for "live."
Browsing the template library
The "Browse template library" button opens a picker with roughly 30 pre-written SMS templates grouped into categories, plus a "Recommended" tab and a "Seed all" button that clones the entire set in one click. Cloning a template (individually or via Seed all) adds a real, editable row to your list — but every template in this library carries the same "Not yet automated" badge, because the library's own template IDs don't match any of the seven wired event kinds. In practice, anything you clone from here is saved for manual sending or future reference; it will not start firing on its own no matter how you configure it afterward.
Provider connections
The two status cards at the top of the page — SMS via Twilio and Email via SMTP — are read-only; there's no "Connect" button on this page. They reflect whether TWILIO_* keys or SMTP_HOST/SMTP_USER/SMTP_PASS are set on the server. If a status dot shows amber instead of green, that's a hosting/environment configuration gap, not something you can fix from here.
Standing automations
Below the provider cards are on/off switches for the shop's automated messaging: periodic "time to come back in" service reminders, recoat/inspection-due maintenance reminders, and missed-call auto text-back. Further down, the "Sales playbook emails" card is a convenience shortcut, not a separate setting in its own right — it mirrors the same daily reply digest and failure-alert toggles that live on the Playbook page, and switching them off here only silences the email channel; the underlying digest and failure alert keep working inside the app either way. The failure alert (triggers when 5 or more plays fail within any rolling hour) is meant to stay on unless you're certain you want it off.
