What this checklist is
When you open the Settings page, a card titled "Finish setting up your shop" appears near the top — above the settings search bar and the category pills, below any pending organization-link notice if your shop has one. It tracks four setup steps SalesThumb considers essential to taking a quote and getting paid, and shows how many of the four you've completed.
The card displays a running count ("X of 4 essentials done — complete these to take quotes and get paid"), a percentage in the corner, and a progress bar that fills as you check things off. It only appears while at least one step is still outstanding — once all four are done, the card disappears from the page entirely.
The four steps
Each step is a clickable row that takes you straight to the relevant settings page:
1. Add your services — links to Settings > Services, where you define the services your shop offers and their default pricing. 2. Add installers & bays — links to Settings > Installers & Bays, where you add your techs and physical work areas. 3. Turn on online booking — links to Settings > Online Booking, where you configure your public booking page. 4. Connect payments — links to Settings > Payments, where you connect SalesThumb Payments to accept card payments.
A step that isn't done yet shows an empty circle and its label in bold; hovering the row reveals an arrow hinting you should click through. Once a step is done, the circle becomes a green checkmark and the label turns muted with a strikethrough.
The same four settings pages (Services, Installers & Bays, Online Booking, and Payments) also carry their own small status badge on their tile further down the page — an amber warning badge if that area still needs setup, or a green checkmark badge once it's configured. So you'll see the same "done" state reflected twice on the page: once in the checklist card at the top, and again on the individual tile.
How each step gets marked done
The checklist checks live data, not a box you tick manually:
- Add your services is marked done once your shop has at least one active service.
- Add installers & bays is marked done once your shop has at least one active installer or bay.
- Turn on online booking is marked done automatically once the first two steps are — SalesThumb confirms your shop has both an active service and an active installer/bay, since that combination is what actually makes your booking page bookable. There's no separate toggle to flip; finishing the first two steps satisfies this one on its own. You'll still want to visit the Online Booking settings page to configure the page itself (hours, services offered online, etc.), but the checklist item completes regardless.
- Connect payments is marked done once you've connected SalesThumb Payments so your shop can accept card payments.
Because these checks run against your shop's live data, unmarking something later (for example, deactivating your last service) can flip a step back to "not done" and bring the card back if it had disappeared.
Not the same as the Dashboard's checklist
SalesThumb also shows a setup checklist on your Dashboard, under a card titled "Get your shop set up." That is a separate, independently tracked checklist from the one described here — the two live on different pages and track their own progress. The Dashboard's version covers more ground than the Settings page's four essentials — it also includes things like filling out your shop profile, uploading your logo, inviting a team member, adding your first customer, and booking your first appointment — so finishing the Settings page's checklist won't automatically complete the Dashboard's too. They're two different pieces of UI doing their own thing, not one shared list duplicated by mistake. If you're looking for how the Dashboard's version works — including how to collapse or dismiss it — that's covered separately in this Help Center.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same checklist that shows up on my Dashboard? No. The Dashboard has its own "Get your shop set up" card, and the Settings page has a separate "Finish setting up your shop" card. They track different sets of steps and are tracked and displayed independently. Seeing both isn't a bug or a duplicate — they're meant to both exist so you see progress whether you land on the Dashboard or go straight into Settings.
Do I have to complete the four steps in order? No. You can click into any of the four settings pages in any order. The checklist lists them in the order most shops find easiest to follow — services, then installers & bays, then online booking, then payments — but nothing blocks you from connecting payments first if that's what you need done.
Why did "Turn on online booking" check itself off without me doing anything on that page? That step doesn't have its own separate switch. SalesThumb marks it done as soon as your shop has at least one active service and at least one active installer or bay, because that's what actually makes your public booking page bookable. Completing the first two steps satisfies this one automatically — though you'll still want to visit the Online Booking settings page to configure your public booking page itself.
What happens once all four steps are done? The whole progress card disappears from the top of the Settings page. It only shows up while at least one of the four essentials still needs attention, so a shop that's fully set up won't see it at all.
