Voiding a warranty

Void a warranty when the coverage no longer applies, such as film the customer had removed. Voiding asks for a reason, keeps it on file, and can't be undone.

Watch: How to void a warranty in SalesThumb (0:41)

Voiding marks a warranty as no longer valid. Use it when the coverage doesn't apply anymore: the customer had the film removed, the install was redone under a new warranty, or the warranty was registered by mistake.

Void a warranty

  1. Open Warranties from the sidebar.
  2. Click the warranty you need to void.
  3. Click Void at the top of the page.
  4. Type a reason for the record, for example "Film removed by customer". A reason is required.
  5. Click Void warranty to confirm.

The warranty is marked Void, and your reason stays on file with it.

Before you confirm

Voiding can't be undone, so check that you're on the right warranty: look at the customer, vehicle and certificate number. If the car was sold and the coverage should carry on, use Transfer instead of voiding.

Who can do this: Owners, Admins and Managers, by default. Other roles won't see the Void button.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Can I undo voiding a warranty?

A: No. Voiding can't be undone, so check the customer, vehicle and certificate number before you confirm.

Q: Do I have to give a reason to void a warranty?

A: Yes. The Void warranty button stays disabled until you type a reason, and that reason is kept on file with the warranty.

Q: Should I void a warranty when the car is sold?

A: No. If the coverage should continue with the new owner, transfer the warranty instead. Void it only when the coverage no longer applies.
