The Search screen in the SalesThumb mobile app is one box that searches your whole shop at once. Type a name, phone number, email, plate, VIN, or quote or invoice number and the matches come up in groups. Every team member who uses the app can open it.
Opening Search
There are two ways in:
- On the Today tab, tap the Search button (the magnifying glass) at the top, next to the notifications bell.
- From any screen, tap the round thumb button at the bottom to open Go to, then tap the Search everything bar at the bottom of the menu.
The search box opens with the keyboard already up.
What you can search for
The box hint says it all: "Search names, phones, plates, VINs, quote #". Specifically:
- Customers: by first or last name, email, or phone number.
- Vehicles: by make, model, plate, or VIN.
- Quotes: by quote number.
- Invoices: by invoice number.
Results start showing once you've typed at least two characters, and update as you keep typing.
Reading the results
Matches are grouped under Customers, Vehicles, Quotes and Invoices. Each group shows up to 8 matches.
- A customer shows their name with their phone and email underneath. Tap to open the customer.
- A vehicle shows the year, make and model with the plate and VIN underneath. Tap to open the customer who owns it.
- A quote or invoice shows its number with the total and status underneath. Tap to open it.
If nothing matches, you'll see "No matches for" your search, with a tip to try a partial name, plate, VIN, or number.
Tips for better results
- Search more than one word for names. Typing "edward b" finds Edward Bravo, because each word only has to match somewhere in the name, email or phone.
- Phone numbers work in any format. The search compares digits, so "(702) 555-0123", "702-555-0123" and "7025550123" all find the same customer. A partial number of three or more digits works too.
- A piece of a plate or VIN is enough. You don't need the whole thing.
If phone numbers show as "Restricted"
Some roles can't see customer contact details. If yours is one of them, matching customers still appear, but their phone and email show as Restricted. Your shop owner controls this in your team permissions. See Team roles and permissions.
If the search can't reach the server, you'll see "Search failed" with a Try again button.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Why doesn't anything show after one letter?
A: Search waits until you've typed at least two characters, then shows matches as you type.
Q: Can I find a car by its plate?
A: Yes. Type all or part of the plate or VIN. Vehicle matches open the customer who owns the car.
Q: Why do I only see 8 results?
A: Each group (customers, vehicles, quotes, invoices) shows up to 8 matches. Type more of the name or number to narrow it down.
Q: Why do some phone numbers say Restricted?
A: Your role doesn't include permission to view customer contact info. The customer still shows up, but their phone and email are hidden. Ask your shop owner if you need access.
