The Cash Drawer screen in the mobile app lets you run your register from your phone. You can open a drawer at the start of a shift, log cash going in and out, and count the drawer at close to see if it's over or short. It works the same way as the cash drawer on the web, and both share the same sessions. For more on how drawer sessions work, see How cash drawer sessions work.
To open it, tap the round thumb button at the bottom of the screen, then Cash Drawer under Operations. It's there for people with Sales or manager access in the mobile app.
Opening a drawer
- Tap Open drawer.
- Enter a Drawer name (optional). Leave it blank for a single default drawer.
- Enter the starting cash in the till.
- Add notes if you want, then confirm.
A card for the open drawer appears with its name, who opened it and the Expected amount.
Logging cash in and out
Tap Log event on the open drawer and pick a type:
- Cash drop: adds to the expected drawer total.
- Payout: removes from the expected drawer total.
- Pickup: removes from the expected drawer total.
- Adjustment: a manual correction. You choose whether it increases or decreases the total.
Enter the amount, add a note if you want, and tap Log event. The event list on the card updates, and so does the expected total.
Cash payments taken in SalesThumb post themselves to the drawer as Cash sale events, so you don't need to log those.
Only people with permission to record payments see Adjustment. Everyone else sees the other three types.
Closing out
- Tap Close out on the open drawer.
- Choose Enter total and type the counted cash, or choose Count by denomination and enter how many of each bill and coin you have. The Counted total adds up as you type.
- Check the box that compares Expected with what you counted. It reads Balanced when they match, Minor variance when you're off by $5 or less, and Variance when you're off by more.
- Add notes if you want and confirm with Close Drawer.
You'll see "Balanced — counted cash matched the expected total," or how much you're over or short.
Aborting a session
Owners, admins and managers see an extra button on the open drawer for Abort session. It marks the session aborted with no count and no variance. Use it only for a drawer that was opened by mistake or left open, not to skip counting cash. You can add a reason.
Session history
Below the open drawer, Session history lists past sessions with their drawer name, status (Open, Closed or Aborted), when they were opened and by whom. Tap a session to see its event log. Tap Load more to see older sessions.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Do I need to log cash sales by hand?
A: No. Cash payments taken in SalesThumb add a Cash sale event to the drawer automatically.
Q: Why don't I see Adjustment?
A: Adjustments need permission to record payments. Ask your shop owner if you need it.
Q: Can I open a drawer on my phone and close it on the web?
A: Yes. The mobile app and the web use the same drawer sessions.
Q: Why can't I find Cash Drawer in my menu?
A: It shows for people with Sales or manager access in the mobile app. Installer-only access doesn't include it.
