The Franchisee Risk page gives every location in a franchise network a 0-100 score and a tier, so HQ can see which locations may need attention first. It's part of the HQ add-on, it only appears for organizations set up as a franchise, and only HQ owners and admins can see it. Franchisees never see a score, including their own.
The page says it plainly at the top: the score is an internal early-warning signal, not a forecast. It doesn't predict whether a franchisee will miss a payment, default, or close. It only points HQ at where to look first.
Getting there
Switch to your HQ view (see Switching between your locations and the HQ dashboard view), then click Franchisee Risk under Insights in the HQ sidebar.
You can also get there from the HQ dashboard. The Franchisee risk card there shows how many locations sit in each tier and lists up to three Medium or High locations. Click View all to open the full page.
If you don't see the link, check two things. Your organization's type must be Franchise. If it isn't, the page tells you to change it on the Organization Profile page. Your HQ role must also be owner or admin. The score also uses revenue and royalty data, so you need the permissions to view financial reports and royalties.
Reading the page
The page opens with four tiles: High, Medium, Low, and Not rated. Each shows how many locations fall in that tier.
Below that, the By location table lists every location, riskiest first, with these columns:
- Location — the shop name, city and state. Locations that haven't opened yet show "Not yet open", and closed ones show "Deactivated".
- Tier — High, Medium, Low, or Not rated.
- Score — the number out of 100, plus how much of the score had data behind it (for example, "70% of the weight has data").
- Main driver — the biggest reason behind the score.
Seeing why a location scored the way it did
Click Why on any row to open the breakdown. You'll see a one-line summary, an Open location button that takes you to that location's HQ profile, and one panel for each of the three signals. Each panel shows:
- how many points that signal added, out of the most it could add
- whether it was Rated, had Limited data, or had No data
- What it saw, How it scored, and Why it counts, in plain sentences
Below the panels, a line shows that the points add up to the score. Click Hide to close the breakdown.
How the score works
The How the score works card at the bottom of the page explains the method:
- Three signals, weighted: Royalty lateness (45), Revenue trend vs peers (30), and Compliance (25). Each signal is scored from 0 to 100% risk and multiplied by its weight. Higher means riskier.
- Tiers: Low is under 20, Medium is 20-44, and High is 45 and up.
- Missing data is never treated as healthy. A signal with no data is left out, and the other signals are scaled up to 100. If less than half of the weight has data, the location is not rated. Locations that haven't opened yet, or are deactivated, aren't rated either.
- Hard floors: an open royalty statement 60 or more days overdue makes the location at least High. An active Notice of Default makes it at least Medium, and High once its cure period has passed. Floors can only raise a tier, never lower it. When a floor applies, it's shown at the top of the breakdown as a Hard floor note.
The score is worked out fresh each time you open the page, from the data on record at that moment. The time it was computed is shown near the top. Nothing is saved and nobody is notified.
The score on a location's profile
Each location's HQ profile page has its own Franchisee risk panel. It shows that location's tier, score, and the same three-signal breakdown. It also has a table of the royalty statements that have come due recently, with the due date, status, balance, and whether each was paid on time or late. Click All locations to go back to the full list.
Royalty statements come from HQ royalty billing. See How royalty calculation and collection work in HQ tier for how those are set up.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Can franchisees see their own risk score?
A: No. The score is shown to the HQ organization's owners and admins only. Franchisees never see a score, including their own.
Q: Why does a location say "Not rated"?
A: A location is not rated if it hasn't opened yet, is deactivated, or has data for less than half of the score's weight. Missing data is never counted as healthy, so SalesThumb doesn't guess.
Q: What makes a location High no matter what the number says?
A: Two hard floors. An open royalty statement 60 or more days overdue makes it at least High. An active Notice of Default makes it at least Medium, and High once the cure period has passed.
Q: Does the score send alerts or get saved anywhere?
A: No. It's worked out fresh each time you open the page, from the data on record at that moment. Nothing is stored and nobody is notified.
Q: Why don't I see Franchisee Risk in my HQ sidebar?
A: It only shows for organizations whose type is Franchise, and only to HQ owners and admins. You can change the organization type on the Organization Profile page.
