The Flat Glass field estimator is a phone-friendly measuring tool for on-site visits to homes and businesses. You pick the customer and film, measure each window in inches, and SalesThumb adds up the square footage and price as you go. When you save, the job becomes a draft quote in your normal Quotes list.
Opening the field estimator
You can get there two ways:
- In the sidebar, open the Flat Glass group and click Field estimator (marked Mobile).
- On the New Quote page, click Flat Glass field estimate at the top right.
Saving requires permission to manage pricing. By default that's Owners, Admins, and Managers.
Before your first visit
The estimator prices from your Flat Glass films. Set them up under Settings → Sales Matrix, on the Flat Glass tab. Each film needs a per-square-foot price. A film without one shows "No per-sqft price set" and will price the job at $0.
On the Settings tab of that same page, the Flat Glass intake card controls:
- Film roll width (inches). The estimator shows it under the film list (60" unless you change it).
- The Home room picker and Business area picker, which set the quick-add room buttons. These are the same names the kiosk uses. If you haven't set any, the estimator uses its built-in list (Kitchen, Living room, Bedroom, Bathroom, Office / den, Other for homes; Storefront, Conference room, Office, Lobby, Bathroom, Other for businesses).
If you have no films for the property type you pick, the estimator says so and points you to Settings → Sales Matrix.
Measuring a property
- Under Customer, search for the customer or create a new one.
- Under Project, tap Residential or Commercial, then tap the film you're quoting. The first film is picked for you. If a film has a sale running, it shows a Sale · % off badge and the lower price, and that sale price is what goes on the quote.
- Under Rooms & windows, tap a room button to add it. Tap the same button again for a second one and it's numbered (for example "Bedroom #2"). You can also tap Add room at the bottom for a blank room, and rename any room by typing in its name box.
- For each window, type the width in the W box and height in the H box, in inches. Decimals are fine. Press Enter to jump from width to height.
- For identical windows, use the + and – buttons to set the count instead of measuring each one. Or tap Duplicate to copy the last window's size into a new row.
- Tap Window to add a blank window row. Add a note to any window if it helps, like "tempered" or "hard to reach."
- Add anything the office should know in Notes (optional).
Each room shows its window count, square footage, and price as you type.
Reading the totals bar
The bar at the bottom of the screen stays put while you scroll. It shows:
- Total windows
- Total square feet
- Linear feet (LF), based on the longer side of each window
- Material ≈, your rough material cost, if your films have a material cost set
- Total, the customer price
Square feet is width × height ÷ 144, times the window count. The price is total square feet × the film's per-square-foot price.
Saving the estimate
Tap Save. It stays greyed out until you've picked a customer and a film and entered at least one window with both a width and a height.
SalesThumb creates a draft quote and opens it. On the quote:
- Each room becomes its own line, with the square footage rounded up to a whole number.
- The line description lists the film, every window size and note, and the measured square feet and LF, so the office can check the math.
- If the film has a material cost set, each room is split into a taxable material line and a non-taxable installation line. Otherwise it's one taxable line.
- The quote notes record the property type, film, roll width, totals, and your notes.
From there, review it and send it like any other quote. See How to create and send a quote to a customer.
Things to know
- Rooms with no complete measurements are left off the quote.
- Photos can't be attached from the field estimator.
- If the customer is on account hold, the save is blocked and you'll see an error message. Start the quote from the regular New Quote page instead, where an Owner, Admin, or Manager can override the hold.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Why is the Save button greyed out?
A: You need a customer, a film, and at least one window with both a width and a height entered. Once all three are set, Save turns on.
Q: How is the price worked out?
A: Square feet for each window is width times height divided by 144, times its count. The total square feet is multiplied by the film's per-square-foot price, using the sale price if the film has one running.
Q: Why does my quote have separate material and installation lines?
A: When a film has a material cost set, each room is split into a taxable material line and a non-taxable installation line. Without a material cost, each room is one taxable line.
Q: Where do the room buttons come from?
A: From the Home room picker and Business area picker in the Flat Glass intake card, on the Settings tab of Settings → Sales Matrix. The kiosk uses the same lists. If you haven't set any, a built-in list is used.
Q: Can I attach photos while measuring?
A: No. The field estimator doesn't take photos.
