# How to create and send a quote to a customer
Quotes are how you put a price in front of a customer before the work starts. This walks through building one from scratch, adding line items, and getting it into your customer's hands.
Start a new quote
From the Quotes pipeline, click New Quote in the top right. This opens the quote builder.
Add the customer and vehicle
Under Customer & Vehicle, use the Customer picker to search for an existing customer or add a new one. Once a customer is selected, the Vehicle picker lets you choose one of their vehicles or add a new one.
If the customer doesn't have a source on file yet (how they heard about you), you'll see a required field asking for it before you can save the quote — this feeds your marketing reports, so it's worth filling in accurately rather than skipping.
Add line items
In the Line Items section you can add what's actually being quoted:
- Add item opens a popover to quick-add from your service catalog, a Good/Better/Best package (or whatever tiers your shop has set up — packages can be tagged Good, Better, Best, Standard, or Custom, so don't be surprised if you see different labels here), a tint window selection, a custom tint build, or a PPF panel/coverage configuration.
- Load template lets you pull in a saved quote template instead of building line items one at a time.
- Each line item has a kind (Service, Film, Part, Labor, Fee, Discount, Subcontract), a label, description, quantity, and unit price.
Next to each line item's price is a Taxable toggle. Switch it off and the line updates to show two separate pieces of text side by side: a bold Tax-exempt label next to a smaller, muted note reading Sales tax will NOT be applied — it's not a single sentence, just two short labels next to each other so you can tell at a glance which lines are taxed and which aren't.
Flat Glass field estimates
If you're quoting a flat-glass job in the field (like an in-home or on-site estimate), you don't have to use the full quote builder. On the New Quote page itself, next to the "New Quote" heading, there's a Flat Glass field estimate button that takes you to a mobile-friendly estimator built for that workflow.
Deposit, valid-through date, and notes
Below the line items you can set:
- A deposit percentage, if you want to require a deposit before work begins.
- Valid for (days), which defaults to 30 and controls how long the quote stays open.
- Notes the customer will see, and Internal notes that stay private to your team.
Your draft is saved automatically
As you fill out the form, SalesThumb auto-saves your in-progress draft to your browser shortly after you stop typing — so a refresh or an accidental back-button tap won't wipe out your work. If you return to the New Quote page with an unsaved draft waiting, you'll see a banner letting you keep it or start fresh. The draft is cleared automatically once the quote is successfully created.
Save the quote
When everything looks right, click Create Quote at the bottom of the form. This saves the quote and takes you to its detail page.
Send it to the customer
From the quote's detail page, click Send Quote. This opens a dialog where you can send it by text message, email, or both — SalesThumb pre-selects text message when the customer has a phone number on file (email is used instead if they don't), and you can adjust the message or toggle either channel before sending. Once sent, the same button becomes Resend if you need to send it again.
