A crew handoff is a short note from today's crew to tomorrow's: jobs left half-done, a customer coming back, a tool that needs fixing. Anyone on the shop's crew can add to it, whatever their role. Everyone who closes on the same day adds to one shared handoff, and the next crew sees it at the top of their dashboard. It doesn't send a text, email, or push notification.
Where to leave one
On the web:
- On your Dashboard, click Leave a handoff for tomorrow. If there's a handoff from the last crew showing, the button sits at the bottom of that card.
- On the Time clock page, right after you clock out, you'll see "Clocked out. Anything tomorrow's crew should know?" Click Leave a handoff for tomorrow's crew, or click the X to dismiss it.
In the mobile app:
- On the Today or Dashboard tab, tap Leave a handoff for tomorrow (or Leave one for tomorrow under a handoff you're reading).
- When you clock out from the Profile tab, the "Clocked Out" message asks "Anything tomorrow's crew should know?" Tap Leave a handoff.
Writing the handoff
The handoff window opens with a few facts SalesThumb fills in for you from today's schedule and stock:
- Jobs done today, plus any carried over (booked today but not finished) and any no-shows
- How many jobs are booked tomorrow, and the first one's time, customer first name, and service
- Items that are low on stock
- Urgent customer texts still unread in the inbox
There are no dollar amounts, since everyone on the crew can read the handoff.
If a coworker already wrote something today, it shows under Already in today's handoff so you don't repeat it.
- Type in Your note. On the Growth plan or higher you'll also see Draft with AI, which writes a short draft from today's facts. It adds the draft below anything you've already typed, so edit it before saving.
- Under To-dos for tomorrow, type a task (for example, "Call Dana about her pickup time"), pick who should handle it, or leave it on Anyone, then click Add. Repeat for each to-do.
- Click Save handoff.
You need a note or at least one to-do to save. A to-do you typed but didn't add yet still gets saved.
A handoff saved after midnight but before 4:00 AM (shop time) counts toward the day that just ended. That way a late closer's note still reaches the morning crew.
Reading the handoff the next morning
The next crew sees a From yesterday's crew card at the top of the dashboard, labeled with the day it was written. If the last handoff is older than yesterday (say, Saturday's on a Monday), the card says From the last crew and names the day instead. It shows handoffs from up to 7 days back.
On the card you'll find:
- Each person's note, with their name
- The same kind of facts, updated: what got done on the handoff's day and how many jobs are booked today
- The to-dos. Tick one off when it's done and it shows who finished it.
- Read by: who has already marked it read
Click Got it to mark it read. After that, the card shrinks to a single line ("You've read yesterday's handoff"). Click Show on the web, or tap the line on mobile, to open it again.
Who can write
Only people who are on this shop's crew can leave or tick off a handoff. Someone who reaches the shop only through HQ access can read it but can't write to it. On the mobile app, saving a handoff, ticking to-dos, and tapping Got it need the Growth plan or higher. On Starter the mobile app is view-only for these, so use the web app.

Frequently asked questions
Q: If two people close the same day, do they each leave a separate handoff?
A: No. Everyone who closes that day adds to the same handoff, and the next crew sees all the notes and to-dos together, each note with its author's name.
Q: Does the next crew get a text or notification?
A: No. The handoff shows as a card at the top of the dashboard on the web and on the Today and Dashboard tabs in the mobile app.
Q: Why don't I see the Draft with AI button?
A: Draft with AI is included on the Growth plan and higher. You can still write the note yourself on any plan.
Q: I saved a note at 12:30 AM. Which day does it go to?
A: The day that just ended. Anything saved before 4:00 AM shop time counts toward the previous day, so the morning crew still sees it.
Q: Does the handoff show money or sales totals?
A: No. The facts only include job counts, tomorrow's first job, low-stock items, and unread urgent texts, because every role on the crew can read it.
