Adding a ceramic coating to a quote or invoice

How the Add ceramic coating dialog works: pick a coating tier from your catalog and add the priced coating line, and installation line, to a quote or invoice.

4 min read

The Add ceramic coating dialog lets you pick a coating tier and drops the priced lines onto a quote or invoice. The prices come from your ceramic coating packages in Sales Matrix settings.

Where to find it

  • New quote: click Add item, then choose Ceramic coating under Guided builders.
  • New invoice: in the Line Items card, click Add ceramic coating.
  • An existing invoice: while its lines can still be edited, click Ceramic coating next to Add line item.

The dialog says "Pick a coating tier — priced from your Ceramic Coating catalog, just like the Sales Matrix."

Add a coating

  1. Open the dialog. Each package shows as a card, in the tier order your shop uses (Good, Better, Best under your own labels), followed by any custom tiers.
  2. Click a card. A check mark shows it is picked.
  3. Look at the footer. It names the tier you picked and shows the total. Until you pick one, it says "No tier picked".
  4. Click Add ceramic coating. The dialog closes and the lines are on your quote or invoice.

Each time you open the dialog it starts fresh with nothing picked. To add a second coating, open it again.

What each card shows

  • The tier name, the brand and the product line.
  • Small chips for details your shop has filled in, such as "[hardness] hardness", "5-year warranty" (or "Lifetime warranty"), the hydrophobic label and "+N% gloss". A chip only shows when that detail is set.
  • The price. The retail price shows crossed out above it only when the price shown is lower than retail. When the two are the same, there is no crossed-out price. When a sale percentage is on, a "Sale · N% off" tag shows and the price turns red.

The price used is the package's sale price with any sale percentage taken off. The dialog doesn't use the package's "today only" price.

What gets added

If your package has a material cost set, you get two lines:

  • "Ceramic coating — [brand] [line] — coating", added as film.
  • "Ceramic coating — [brand] [line] — installation", added as labor.

If no material cost is set, you get one line, "Ceramic coating — [brand] [line]", at the full price. The coating line is taxable and the installation line is not, unless you changed your ceramic tax settings.

If the dialog is empty

With no packages set up, it says "No ceramic coating packages are set up yet. Add them under Settings → Sales Matrix → Ceramic." Click Open Ceramic Coating settings to add them. See Sales Matrix catalog settings.

The lines are normal lines once added. If you don't have the Manage pricing permission and a line's price can't be matched to your catalog, you see a message such as "[line name]: Ask a manager to change this price." See Why a quote price doesn't match the service price list.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Why did one coating become two lines?

A: When the package has a material cost set, the dialog splits the price into a coating line and an installation line. With no material cost, you get a single line at the full price.

Q: Which price does the dialog use?

A: The package's sale price, with any sale percentage taken off. It doesn't use the today-only price.

Q: Can I add two coating tiers in one go?

A: No. You pick one tier per time you open the dialog. Open it again to add another.

Q: Why can't I see any coating tiers?

A: No ceramic coating packages are set up yet. Add them in Settings → Sales Matrix → Ceramic, then open the dialog again.
