On the Sales Matrix Review screen you can take a flat amount off any line. A reason is always required. Depending on your permissions and on the lowest price set for the line, a manager or the owner may have to enter a PIN.

Add a discount to a line

  1. On the Review screen, click the tag icon at the right of the line.
  2. In the Add a discount box, enter the Discount amount.
  3. Enter a Reason (required), such as "Price match, loyalty, damaged panel". It holds up to 200 characters.
  4. Click Apply.

The line then shows the amount and reason under it, like "−$40.00 discount · Price match". The price on the line is already the price after the discount. To change it, click the tag icon again (the box now says Edit discount). Click Remove discount to take it off.

If you leave the amount empty you'll see "Enter a discount amount greater than $0." If you leave the reason empty you'll see "A reason is required to apply a discount."

When a manager PIN is needed

If your sign-in doesn't have permission to discount, a Manager PIN required box opens. It says "You don't have permission to apply this discount — have a manager enter their PIN to approve it." Your amount and reason stay in place.

  1. Have a manager type their PIN. It is the 4 to 8 digit PIN managers also use for the time clock.
  2. Click Apply again.

A wrong PIN says "That PIN isn't recognized as a manager for this shop." After too many tries you'll see "Too many attempts — wait a moment and try again."

Below the lowest price

Each line can have a lowest price in your Sales Matrix catalog. See Sales Matrix catalog settings. If a discount takes the sale below the lowest prices of its lines, the box changes to Below the lowest price — owner approval needed. It says "Have the owner enter their PIN to approve this discount, or lower the discount."

  • Enter the owner's PIN and click Apply.
  • An owner's PIN also covers the manager step, so one PIN is enough.
  • A wrong PIN in this box says "That PIN isn't recognized as an owner for this shop."

The screen faces the customer, so it never shows the lowest price or any numbers from your pricing grid.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Why does the discount box ask for a PIN?

A: Your sign-in doesn't have permission to discount. A manager types their PIN to approve it, and your amount and reason stay in place.

Q: What does Below the lowest price mean?

A: The discount would take the sale under the lowest prices set for its lines. The owner has to enter their PIN, or you can lower the discount.

Q: Does an owner's PIN also work for the manager step?

A: Yes. One owner PIN covers both steps.

Q: Is a reason required?

A: Yes. The reason is saved with the discount and shows under the line.
