Tint Laws in the mobile app is a quick reference for the legal VLT (visible light transmission) limits in each state. Pick a state, see the limit for every window, and type a percentage to check whether it's legal on the front windows. It pairs well with the Tint Estimator.
To open it, tap the round thumb button at the bottom of the screen, then Tint Laws under Field. Anyone with mobile access can open it.
Find a state
The first screen lists every state. Type in Search state… to narrow the list by name or two-letter code. Each row shows the front-window rule, such as "Front 35% min". Tap a state to open it.
What a state page shows
Tap Sedan or SUV / Truck at the top, because some states set different limits by vehicle type. Then read:
- Front side windows
- Windshield
- Back side windows
- Rear window
Two tags may follow: Reflective film allowed or No reflective film, and Install sticker required where a state asks for one. Any notes for that state show below. A window with no limit reads "No state limit." Some states don't allow film on the front windows, and the page says so.
Tap All states to go back.
Quick-check a front-window percentage
- Under Check a front-window %, type the percentage of the film you plan to use.
- Read the result under the box.
A result starting with a check mark means it meets the state's front minimum. A result starting with a cross says it's too dark or not allowed, and adds "Have the customer sign a waiver." Some results are legal only if the film also meets conditions, and the app lists them. The quick check covers the front windows only.
Keep in mind
The state data is built into the app, so this screen doesn't ask the server for anything. The screen itself carries a reminder: it's reference only, shows statutory minimums without medical or other exemptions, and local enforcement varies, so confirm current law before install.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Does the quick check cover every window?
A: No. It checks the front side windows only. Use the limits listed on the state page for the other windows.
Q: Why does one state say no film is allowed on the front windows?
A: Some states don't allow tint film there. The state page and the quick check show that instead of a percentage.
Q: Is this legal advice?
A: No. The screen says it's a reference only, with statutory minimums and no exemptions. Confirm current law before you install.
Q: Where do I find Tint Laws?
A: Tap the round thumb button, then Tint Laws under Field.
