On the Gross Profit per Job report, the AI take panel writes two or three sentences about what is driving your margin. It reads only the numbers already on the report. It doesn't look anything else up.
Where to find it
Click Reports in the sidebar, switch to Detail, and open Sales → Gross Profit per Job. The report is on the Growth plan and up, and it needs permission to view financial reports. The date range pills set the period.
The AI take panel sits under the four numbers at the top (Jobs, Revenue, Material COGS and Gross Profit). It only appears when there is at least one completed job in your range.
Get an AI take
- Set the date range you care about.
- In the AI take panel, click Get AI take. It reads Thinking… while it works.
- Read the two or three sentences. The link now says Refresh.
Before you click, the panel says "2-3 sentences on what's driving margin, from the numbers above."
What it looks at
It is given the numbers on the report: the dates, the number of jobs, revenue, material cost, gross profit and margin percent. It also gets a quick roll-up by service, worked out from the rows in the table below. A job with no service is grouped as Unspecified. It looks at up to the eight biggest services by revenue.
From that it describes what is pulling your margin up or down. If the numbers support it, it names a service worth pushing, or one worth watching because its margin is dragging the average down.
Gross profit here is revenue minus material cost. Labor isn't taken off. See Reading the Staff and Payroll reports.
Good to know
- It is Pro plan and up. On a lower plan you see "Your plan doesn't include this AI tool. Requires Pro or higher."
- Nothing is saved. Leave the page and the take is gone. After you change the date range, click Refresh so the take matches the numbers on screen.
- It only writes text. It doesn't change any price or job.
- A small dot shows once a take is on screen. Green means the AI wrote it. Amber means the AI wasn't available. In that case the panel shows your totals in one plain sentence, ending with "The AI-written take isn't available right now."
Frequently asked questions
Q: Why don't I see the AI take panel?
A: It only shows when the Gross Profit per Job report has at least one completed job in your date range. It also needs the Growth plan for the report and the Pro plan for the AI take.
Q: What numbers does the AI take use?
A: Only the ones already on the report: jobs, revenue, material cost, gross profit and margin, plus a roll-up by service from the table rows.
Q: Does Refresh change anything about my jobs?
A: No. Refresh asks for a new take from the numbers currently on screen. It never changes prices or jobs.
Q: Is the AI take saved?
A: No. It only stays on screen. Leave the page and it is gone, and click Refresh after changing the date range so it matches the numbers you see.
