The Tech view is the stripped-down, touch-friendly screen built for the shop floor — big cards, big buttons, nothing to scroll past to find the next move. It's meant to sit open on a tablet or phone at the install bay all day, not to replace the full calendar for anyone doing scheduling or admin work.
Getting to the Tech view
You'll find it under the Schedules section of the sidebar (Customer flow group): open Schedules, then click the "Tech queue" tab in the tab strip alongside Calendar, Employees, and Waitlist. It's also its own standalone page at /app/tech if you want to bookmark it or pin it on a shop tablet, and it's searchable from the command palette as "Tech view." On the Dashboard, if there are upcoming appointments today, the "N appointments today" chip links straight here too. There's no separate technician login or plan gate on this screen — anyone with a normal account in the shop can open it.
Reading the screen
The header shows "Today's Jobs," today's date, and a badge with the total scheduled count. That count — and everything below it — only includes today's appointments, and it silently drops anything marked Canceled or No-Show, so a job you canceled this morning won't show up here even though it was on the books for today. The list refreshes on its own every 30 seconds; there's no manual refresh button.
Above the job cards you may see a row of small status chips — "in progress," "ready for pickup," "upcoming," "done" — each individual chip only shows once its own count is above zero — so if every job today is still upcoming, you'll still see a single "N upcoming" chip; the row doesn't require more than one status to be represented to appear. The cards themselves are sorted by priority, not strictly by time: In Progress jobs float to the top, then Ready (waiting on customer pickup), then Checked In, then Confirmed/Scheduled jobs in time order, with Completed jobs always sinking to the bottom. Each card shows the appointment time, a status badge, customer name, vehicle (if one's on file), the job title, and who it's assigned to (if a resource is set) — tapping anywhere on that card body opens the full appointment detail page.
Checking in, starting, and completing jobs
The button at the bottom of each card is a one-tap status changer, and its label changes depending on where the job currently sits: Scheduled/Confirmed jobs show "Check In Customer," Checked-In jobs show "Start Job," and In-Progress jobs show "Mark Complete." Each tap fires the status update immediately — there's no confirmation step. A non-obvious gap worth knowing: this quick button never offers a "Ready" or "Cancel" option, and once a job reaches Ready for pickup or Complete, no quick-action button shows at all — not just at Complete. To mark a job Ready for pickup or to cancel it, you have to tap into the full appointment detail page (the same one the card links to) — the Tech view's quick action is only for the Check In → Start → Complete chain.
The job timer
Once you tap "Start Job," a live elapsed-time clock appears next to the status badge and keeps ticking every second — this is the JobTimer, and it only shows while a job is In Progress or Ready (it disappears once the job is marked Complete). It's color-coded against the appointment's scheduled duration: green while you're comfortably inside the scheduled time, amber once you've used 90% of it, and red — with a warning icon instead of a clock icon — once you've gone over. If the job doesn't have a scheduled duration on the appointment, the timer still runs but skips the color warnings and the "/ Nm" comparison.
Job checklists and casting to the display
If a job is Checked In, In Progress, or Ready, the card also shows a job-progress checklist — either a "Start tint checklist" / "Start PPF checklist" button (the default template is picked automatically based on the appointment's service category) or, once started, a progress bar with stage pills and a big button to mark the next stage complete. Keep in mind this checklist is a separate system from the appointment's status: checking off every stage does not automatically move the job to Ready or Complete for you — you still need to tap the status button (or use the full appointment page) to advance it. Finally, if your shop has a SALES-type signage display paired, a cast button appears next to the status button (for the same Scheduled/Confirmed/Checked-In/In-Progress statuses the quick-action button covers) so you can push the job's customer/vehicle info to the sales-counter screen; if no display is paired, that button simply doesn't render — and like the status button, it disappears once the job reaches Ready or Complete, regardless of whether a display is paired.
