Where to find it
From the left nav, go to Customers, then click the + New Customer button (or Add Customer, depending on where you land) to open the full New Customer form. This is the right path when you're entering one customer with complete details — for a fast walk-in during a sale, the quick-create dialog is faster, but this guide covers the full form.
Step 1: Enter the name
First Name and Last Name are the only two required fields, each marked with an asterisk. You can't save the customer without both.
Step 2: Add contact info (optional)
Fill in Email and Phone if you have them. Neither is required — you can create a customer record with just a name and fill in contact details later from their profile.
Step 3: SMS consent (only appears if you enter a phone number)
If you type a phone number, a consent checkbox appears: "Customer has agreed to receive SMS text messages (e.g. verbally on the phone or in person)." Leave it unchecked if you haven't gotten consent yet — you can always turn it on later from the customer's profile once they say yes. Don't check it just to save a step; it's meant to reflect a real conversation with the customer.
Step 4: How did they hear about you? (optional)
Under How did you hear about us?, pick a source from the dropdown — things like Walk-in, Google, Yelp, Referral / word of mouth, Instagram, ChatGPT, and a number of others. It's a single scrolling list, not broken into sections, so just scroll through it to find the closest match. If you choose Other (write in), a text box appears so you can type in specifics (e.g. "saw your truck at Costco"). This field is optional, but filling it in helps your marketing reports show which channels are actually bringing in business.
Step 5: Notes (optional)
Use the Notes box for anything worth remembering about this customer — vehicle preferences, how they like to be contacted, whatever's useful for the next person who looks at their profile.
Step 6: Save
Click Create Customer at the bottom of the form. You'll be taken straight to the new customer's profile page, where you can add a vehicle, book an appointment, or fill in anything you skipped.
Changed your mind partway through? Click Cancel to go back to the customer list without saving.
Adding a lot of customers at once?
If you're bringing in a customer list from another system rather than typing them in one at a time, don't use this form. From the Customers list page, click Import CSV instead. That takes you to the Import customers page, where you can upload a spreadsheet, map your columns, choose how to handle duplicate emails, and preview the results before anything is saved.
