The Sales Attribution report shows which line items on quotes and invoices were added by someone other than the person who wrote it in the first place — SalesThumb's way of separating "who built the deal" from "who closed the extra revenue on it." It lives at Reports → Staff → Sales Attribution (`/app/reports/sales-attribution`), and it's built for owners and managers, not customers — nothing on this page is ever shown outside your shop.
How it decides what's an "upsell"
Every line item on a quote or invoice records who added it, separately from who originally created that quote or invoice. Most of the time those are the same person — a rep writes a quote and adds every line on it themselves. When they're not the same person — someone else adds a line to a quote or invoice they didn't originally write — SalesThumb counts that as an upsell event: revenue closed by someone other than the rep who built the original deal. If every line on every quote and invoice in your shop was always added by the person who wrote it, this report will simply be empty, and that's the correct, healthy-looking result.
What's on the page
A window selector in the top-right lets you pick the lookback: Last 7 days, Last 30 days, Last 90 days, or Last 12 months. It opens on 30 days by default, and everything on the page recalculates for whatever you pick.
Three stat cards summarize the window:
- Upsell revenue — total dollar value of every qualifying line item in the window
- Upsell events — how many qualifying line items there were
- Documents touched — how many distinct quotes and invoices had at least one upsell line item on them
Top upsellers
A leaderboard table ranks reps by upsell revenue in the selected window, with a rep's name, how many upsell events they're credited with, and the total revenue those events added up to. If nothing in the window qualifies, the table shows a message instead of an empty grid, noting that every line item so far was added by the same person who built it.
Upsell events
Below the leaderboard, an events table lists the individual line items behind the numbers: which quote or invoice (with its number), the line item itself, who built it, who actually added that line, the dollar amount, and the date. Each row has an Audit trail button.
Clicking it opens a dialog that pulls the real audit log for that specific quote or invoice — a chronological list of logged actions with a timestamp and the acting user's email for each one, newest first. It's there so you can corroborate an upsell event against its actual history rather than taking the report's own aggregation at face value. If nothing has been logged for it, the dialog says so instead of showing an empty list.
Things to know
- Requires the "View financial reports" permission. Without it, the page shows a blocked message pointing you to Settings → Team → Permissions instead of any report data — this check runs on the page itself, so it can't be bypassed by linking directly to the URL.
- No CSV export. This report is view-only today; there's no download button.
- The events table is capped at the 200 most recent qualifying line items in your selected window. The stat cards' totals (revenue, event count, documents touched) reflect everything in the window even when the list below them is capped — so on a very high-volume shop or a long window, the numbers up top can outrun what you see listed.
- The audit trail dialog shows up to the 100 most recent log entries for that specific quote or invoice. That's generous for a normal deal's paper trail, but an unusually long-lived one could have more history than fits.
- Only line items where SalesThumb actually recorded who added them are eligible. Older line items from before that tracking existed won't retroactively surface here as upsell events, even if a different person genuinely added them at the time.
- This report is operator-facing only. Customers never see it, on the portal or anywhere else — it's purely an internal view into who's adding to whose deals.
Frequently asked questions
Q: What actually counts as an "upsell" here?
A: A line item on a quote or invoice that was added by someone other than the person who created it. If the same rep writes the quote and adds every line themselves, none of it shows up here — this report is specifically about lines added by a second person.
Q: Who can see this report?
A: Anyone with the "View financial reports" permission. If you land on the page without it, you'll see a message telling you to ask a shop owner or admin to grant it in Settings → Team → Permissions, not a blank or broken report.
Q: Where do I find it?
A: Reports → Staff → Sales Attribution, or go straight to /app/reports/sales-attribution.
Q: Can customers see any of this?
A: No. It's an internal, operator-facing report only — it's never surfaced on the customer portal or anywhere a customer would see it.
Q: Can I export the data?
A: Not currently. There's no CSV download on this page today.
Q: Why don't some obviously-upsold jobs from a while back show up?
A: The report can only flag events where SalesThumb captured who added the line at the time. Line items from before that tracking existed in your shop don't carry that record, so they can't retroactively appear here even if a different rep really did add them.
