Royalties Paid is the shop-side view of everything your location owes — or has already paid — to your franchise headquarters. It shows an outstanding-balance banner, four summary KPI cards, a plain-language explainer of exactly how your royalty is currently calculated, a 12-month chart, and full tables of every statement and payment on record for your shop. You'll find it at Reports → Financial → "Royalties paid" (`/app/reports/royalties`). It's built for franchisee shop owners and managers — anyone on your team with the "View financial reports" permission — and it's entirely read-only: there's nothing to pay, dispute, or edit from this page itself.
If your shop isn't part of a franchise, this report doesn't apply to you. The page checks that up front and, for an independent shop, shows a plain message instead of the report: every dollar you bill stays with you.
Who can see it, and how to get there
Two gates run before the report itself loads. First, you need the "View financial reports" permission — without it you'll see a card saying you don't have permission, with a pointer to ask a shop owner or admin to grant it from Settings → Team → Permissions. Second, even with that permission, the report only shows real content if your shop is actually linked to a franchise headquarters; if it isn't, you get a "No royalties to report" message instead of an empty table.
The page carries the same Reports navigation sidebar used across every report — the full category list plus your favorites — so you can jump to another report without backing out to the Reports hub first.
The outstanding-balance banner and KPI strip
If your shop currently owes anything, a red banner sits at the top of the page: the total outstanding dollar amount and how many statements it's spread across, plus — when HQ has set a due date — the next due date and amount. The banner only appears when there's a real balance; a shop that's paid in full doesn't see it.
Below that, four KPI cards summarize your account at a glance:
- Lifetime paid — total dollars paid to HQ since day one, with the number of statements underneath.
- Year-to-date — total paid so far this calendar year, broken into the royalty portion vs. combined marketing (national + local) underneath.
- This month — what's due for the current period, with the statement count for the month.
- Outstanding — your current balance. The sub-line shows the next due date if one's set, "No due date set" if you owe money without one, or "All paid" once the balance is zero — and the card is highlighted red while there's a balance and green once it's cleared.
How your royalty is calculated
A dedicated card, "How your royalty is calculated," spells out the active rule HQ is applying to your shop in plain terms rather than raw numbers you'd have to interpret yourself. Depending on what your franchisor has configured, it can show:
- Royalty — either a flat percentage of gross, net, or collected sales; a fixed dollar amount per period; or, for a tiered structure, a note pointing you to HQ's statement for the actual brackets (the brackets themselves aren't reproduced on this card).
- Reporting period — monthly, weekly, or annual.
- National marketing fund and local marketing — each shown as a percentage of gross, with local marketing's optional minimum dollar amount noted if one applies. Both lines are hidden entirely if your shop's rule doesn't include them.
- Technology fee and any custom other fee HQ has configured, each shown as a flat dollar amount per period, again only if set.
- Minimum royalty and maximum royalty, if your rule has a floor or a cap.
- Collection — how HQ actually collects: for ACH, the specific day of the month the auto-debit runs; for every other method, a plain label (card on file, emailed invoice, QuickBooks bill, or manual/check).
- Grace period — how many days you have before a statement counts as overdue.
Only the fields that actually apply to your shop's rule show up — a rule with no local marketing fee, for instance, just won't have that line. The card is also explicit that historical statements keep the rule that was in effect when they were generated, so if HQ changes your terms, your past statements' math doesn't retroactively change.
Last 12 months
A stacked bar chart shows the last 12 months of statements, one bar per month, each stacked by fee bucket — royalty as the base segment, then marketing (national + local combined), then technology fee, then any other fee. Hover a bar to see the exact dollar breakdown for that month. If your shop has no statements in the last 12 months, the chart area shows a plain "no statements yet" message instead of an empty chart.
Statements
The Statements table lists every period HQ has billed you for, most information visible in one row: period, statement number, gross sales, royalty, combined marketing, tech fee, total due, total paid, remaining balance (highlighted red when it's above zero), a status badge (Pending, Generated, Sent, Paid, Partial, Disputed, Waived, or Written off), and the due date. The card's description text mentions clicking a row for "the full breakdown," but rows on this page aren't actually clickable today — what you see in the table is the full detail available on the shop side. For the fully itemized version of a specific statement, or to flag a dispute, that has to go through whoever manages your franchisor's HQ dashboard.
Payment history
Below statements, a separate table lists every payment event applied against your statements — paid date, the period it applied to, the statement number, the payment method, the amount, and any note attached to it. Only the first 20 payments show by default; if you have more, a "Show all N payments" button underneath the table reveals the rest.
Credits and adjustments
If HQ has issued any credits or adjustments for your shop, a "Credits & adjustments" card appears underneath the payment history — issue date, reason (with an optional longer description), the amount (shown with a plus sign in green for a genuine credit, or in red for an extra charge), and a status badge (Pending, Applied, or Voided). This card only exists when there's at least one credit or adjustment on record; if HQ hasn't issued any, the section doesn't render at all rather than showing an empty table.
Things to know
- Requires the "View financial reports" permission (shop owners, admins, and managers have it by default; it can be granted to other roles from Settings → Team → Permissions).
- Only shows real data for shops that are part of a franchise. Independent shops see a "No royalties to report" message instead.
- The page is entirely read-only — there's no pay, dispute, or edit action anywhere on it. Actual payment happens through whatever collection method your franchisor has set up (auto-ACH, a card HQ charges manually, an emailed invoice, a QuickBooks bill entry, or a manual/check arrangement), and disputes go through HQ, not this page.
- There's no CSV or PDF export button on this report.
- Statement rows aren't clickable for a line-item breakdown, even though the card's own description text suggests you can click through — treat the table as the summary view, and go to HQ for the itemized version.
- Payment history caps at 20 rows until you click "Show all."

Frequently asked questions
Q: Who can see the Royalties Paid report?
A: Anyone with the "View financial reports" permission. Shop owners, admins, and managers have it by default, and it can be granted to other roles from Settings → Team → Permissions. Without it, you'll see a message saying you don't have permission instead of the report.
Q: My shop isn't part of a franchise — why don't I see any data?
A: This report only shows real content for shops linked to a franchise headquarters. If yours isn't, the page tells you there's nothing to report, since every dollar you bill stays with you.
Q: Where do I find this report?
A: Reports → Financial → "Royalties paid" in the sidebar, or the direct URL /app/reports/royalties.
Q: Can I pay a statement or dispute a charge from this page?
A: No — the page is read-only. Payment runs through whatever collection method HQ has set up for your shop (auto-ACH, a card HQ charges, an emailed invoice, etc.), and disputes have to go through your franchisor's HQ team.
Q: Can I click into a statement to see the full line-item detail?
A: Not from this page today. The summary table — gross, royalty, marketing, tech fee, due, paid, balance, status, and due date — is what's shown here. For the fully itemized version of a specific statement, ask whoever manages your franchisor's HQ dashboard.
Q: Can I export this report as a CSV or PDF?
A: Not currently — there's no export button anywhere on the Royalties Paid page.
