Competitor enrichment lives in HQ's Territory page, in the "Add one" form of the competitor-mapping dialog where you plot rival storefronts against your own territory footprint. Type in a competitor's name (and optionally its brand/chain and street address), then click "AI suggest" to get a best-effort guess at three fields: category (window tint, PPF, ceramic coating, detailing, wrap, flat glass, multi-service, or other), estimated size (small / medium / large), and threat level (low / medium / high). A suggestion only pre-fills those form fields — nothing is written to your competitor map until you review the values (and edit them if you want) and click Add competitor yourself, the same as if you'd typed them in by hand.
Getting a suggestion
In the "Add one" tab, fill in the competitor's Name — that's the only field the AI suggest button requires; it stays disabled until you've typed a name. Brand and Address are optional, but including them gives the AI more to work with: a recognizable brand/chain name lets it draw on general knowledge of that chain, and an address can hint at the local market. Click "AI suggest" and the three fields (Category, Estimated size, Threat level) get filled in based on whatever you've typed. The button's own helper text calls this out directly: it's a general-knowledge guess from the name/brand/address you entered, not a live web search — the AI has no way to look up this specific business right now.
Reviewing and saving
Each field the AI fills in gets a small "AI suggested" badge next to its label. The fields themselves are ordinary editable dropdowns — the same ones you'd use to set category, size, and threat level by hand — so you can change any of them, and the moment you do, that field's badge disappears since it's now just your own answer. The AI won't force a guess into a field it isn't confident about; it's allowed to leave any of the three unset rather than making something up, so don't be surprised if only one or two fields come back filled, or none at all for an unfamiliar name. Nothing is saved anywhere until you click Add competitor — at that point the values in the form (AI-suggested or edited) are written to your competitor map along with the name, brand, and address, and the address is geocoded so the pin shows up correctly.
Things to know
- Add-on and permission required. This is part of the Territory Analytics add-on, and only an org admin can use it — it isn't available to a plain member with regular Territory access.
- General knowledge only, never a live lookup. The AI has no web access and no real-time data. It's reasoning from the name, brand, and address you typed — recognizing a well-known chain or franchise by name, or inferring something about the market from an address — not checking any current source. Treat every suggestion as a starting point to verify, not a fact.
- A field can come back empty on purpose. If the AI doesn't have a reasonable basis for a guess, it returns nothing for that field rather than forcing an answer — an honest blank is treated as better than a fabricated one. If all three fields come back empty, you'll see a message that the AI didn't recognize the business well enough to guess, and you're free to fill the fields in yourself.
- No AI key configured means no suggestion, not a placeholder. Unlike some other AI tools in SalesThumb that return canned sample output when the environment has no AI key set up, this one simply reports that it couldn't get a suggestion right now and leaves the fields as they are — you'd fill them in by hand in that case.
- Usage is capped. Like other AI-assist features, this add-on has a usage limit measured on a rolling basis; if your org is over it for now, you'll see a message saying so, and you can still fill the fields in by hand — the limit eases back open gradually as older usage ages out, not on a fixed reset date.
- It never touches your saved competitor data directly. Running a suggestion doesn't create, update, or delete any competitor record — it only changes what's showing in the Add-one form until you actually save.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Does "AI suggest" search the web to find out about this competitor?
A: No. It has no live web access or real-time data — it's a general-knowledge guess based only on the name, brand, and address you typed into the form. Recognizable chains and franchises get better guesses; an independent local shop it doesn't recognize may come back with little or nothing filled in.
Q: Does clicking "AI suggest" save anything to my competitor map?
A: No. It only pre-fills the Category, Estimated size, and Threat level fields in the Add-one form. Nothing is saved until you review those values (editing them if you want) and click Add competitor yourself.
Q: What does it mean if a field comes back blank after I click "AI suggest"?
A: It means the AI didn't have enough basis to make a confident guess for that field, so it left it unset rather than making one up. If all three fields come back blank, you'll see a message telling you the AI didn't recognize the business well enough — just fill those fields in yourself.
Q: Can I trust an "AI suggested" field once I add the competitor?
A: Treat it as a starting point. It's a best-effort guess from general knowledge, not a verified lookup — review each suggested value before saving, and edit anything that doesn't look right. Once you edit a field, its "AI suggested" badge goes away since it's now your own answer.
Q: Who can use this feature, and what does it require?
A: It's part of the Territory Analytics add-on, and only an org admin can run it — a plain member with regular Territory access won't see it work.
Q: What happens if my org has hit its AI usage limit?
A: You'll get a message saying the limit's been reached for now, and the Category, Estimated size, and Threat level fields are still there for you to fill in by hand. The limit is measured on a rolling basis and eases back open gradually as older usage ages out — there's no fixed date it resets on.
