Some customers have a medical exemption that lets them run darker tint than their state normally allows. When you record it on the quote, SalesThumb stops asking them to sign the "tint exceeds the legal limit" acknowledgement and doesn't hold up their payment over it.
Where to find it
Open the quote and look for the Medical tint exemption card, just below the Tint compliance card.
The card only appears once the quote has a saved tint plan. That happens when the Tint compliance card has an install state and window shades.
Recording an exemption
- Check the customer's document yourself.
- On the Medical tint exemption card, pick the Type: Physician's certificate, DMV / state-issued permit or Other medical exemption.
- Enter Issued by: the doctor's name or the issuing agency.
- Add the Certificate or permit number (optional).
- Enter the Expires date, or tick The document has no expiration date.
- Click Record exemption.
The card then shows On file: with the type, issuer, number and how long it's valid.
Owners, admins, managers, front desk and service writers can record or remove an exemption by default (it uses the permission to manage customers). Others see the card read-only.
What it changes
While the exemption is current:
- The customer isn't asked to sign the tint-law acknowledgement on the invoice page, even if the shades break the state limit.
- The invoice page shows Medical tint exemption on file with the details, and says no tint-law acknowledgement is needed for this job.
- Checkout isn't blocked for a missing tint acknowledgement.
If you also use a general service waiver, the customer still signs that one. The exemption only covers the tint-law part.
When it expires
After the expiration date, the card shows Expired: and says the waiver is required again until a current exemption is recorded. Record the customer's new document the same way.
To take an exemption off the quote, click Remove exemption.
No document upload
The card doesn't store a copy of the certificate or permit. Check the document, and make sure the customer keeps it in the vehicle if your state requires that. See Window tint VLT rules for more on state rules.
Frequently asked questions
Q: Why don't I see the Medical tint exemption card?
A: It appears once the quote has a saved tint plan: an install state and window shades on the Tint compliance card.
Q: Can I upload the customer's certificate?
A: No. The card records the type, who issued it, an optional number and the expiration date. Check the document yourself and keep the paperwork as your state requires.
Q: What happens when the exemption expires?
A: The card shows it as expired, and the customer is asked to sign the tint-law acknowledgement again until you record a current exemption.
Q: Does the customer still sign my service waiver?
A: Yes, if you use one. The exemption only removes the tint-law acknowledgement.
