Getting paid on an invoice shouldn't mean juggling a separate card reader or a different app. SalesThumb's Collect payment dialog is built to be the one-stop shop for it — open any invoice, click Collect payment, and pick whichever method fits the moment.
The five ways to collect
At the top of the dialog you'll see five big buttons: Pay here, Send link, Charge card, Terminal, and Record. They're laid out as tappable tiles instead of tab labels, so an operator can see every option at a glance.
On a phone the five buttons wrap into three rows — two full rows of two, with the fifth button (Record) sitting alone on its own row underneath. On a tablet or a bigger screen they stretch into a single row across. Tap any tile to switch to that method; the panel below updates immediately.
Pay here (QR + card)
This is the fastest option when the customer is standing right in front of you. It shows a QR code plus a short link to the invoice's public pay page. Hand over the tablet or phone, the customer scans it with their own camera, and they pay by card on that page — no keyed entry needed on your end. There's also a Copy link button and an Open button if you'd rather text or display the URL yourself.
Send link (SMS / email)
For a customer who's already left, or who's remote entirely. Toggle on Text message and/or Email, confirm (or edit) the number and address, optionally add a note in the Optional note field, and click Send pay link. This uses the same public pay page as Pay here — the customer just gets to it via text or email instead of a QR scan.
Charge card (keyed-in card)
Use this when the customer reads their card number to you over the phone, or you're charging a card right there in the dashboard without handing over a device. This tab always charges the full invoice balance — there's no amount field to edit here, so it isn't the right tab for a partial payment. Enter the card details in the secure form and submit; the dialog shows "Payment approved" right away and then "Payment received" once it settles and the invoice flips to paid.
Terminal (card-present device)
If your shop has a registered card-present terminal (set up under Settings → Card Terminals), this tab lets you send the invoice balance straight to the device — the customer taps or inserts their card there instead of you keying anything in. Like Charge card, this always sends the full balance; there's no way to key in a partial amount for a terminal charge.
Record (cash / check / ACH / financing / other)
This is the tab for anything that didn't happen through SalesThumb's card processing — cash in hand, a check, ACH, financing, or other. Pick the Method from the dropdown, and the Amount field starts pre-filled with the full balance but is fully editable — type in whatever was actually collected. A Pay in full button resets it back to the full balance if you change your mind. There's also a tip section (None / 15% / 18% / 20% / Other, with 100% going to the tech) and a Notes field for a check number or other reference. Click Record payment to save it.
Taking a partial payment
If a customer is only paying part of what's owed, use the Record tab — its Amount field is genuinely editable, so you can type any figure less than the balance. Charge card and Terminal both charge the full invoice balance only; neither has an amount field, so a partial payment isn't possible through either of them today.
A note on card surcharging
Some shops may eventually see a surcharge line appear on the Charge card form for credit cards, once state law, SalesThumb, and the shop have all signed off on it. That flow is still being verified end-to-end before it's turned on for any shop, so don't rely on it or describe it to a customer as active — for now, assume every charge goes through at face value with no surcharge added.
