Every shop can text customers through SalesThumb's own shared texting line with no setup. If you'd rather text from your own business number, or you already pay for a Twilio account, you can connect it from Settings → Integrations. Only a shop Owner or Admin can connect, change, or disconnect a carrier. Bringing your own Twilio account works on any plan; having SalesThumb text-enable your existing number needs the Starter plan or higher.
Where to find it
- Click Settings in the sidebar.
- Open Integrations.
- Scroll to the Business Texting & Email card.
New shops also see the same texting card in step 5 of the setup wizard, Connect your channels. That step is optional — you can click Skip for now and finish it later from Settings.
The Texting box shows a status badge in its top-right corner: Not connected, Pending verify, Connected, or Connection failed.
Option 1: text-enable your existing business number
This is the default path. You keep your current phone number and phone service; SalesThumb adds texting to it and covers the carrier cost.
- In the Texting box, click Connect.
- Under Your business number, type the number with a plus sign and country code, no spaces or dashes — for example, (555) 010-1234 becomes +15550101234.
- Click Text-enable this number.
- Your number will get an automated verification call. The Texting box shows a short code — when the call asks for it, type that code on your phone's keypad. The code expires about 10 minutes after you connect.
- Click Check status to see whether the verification finished. Once it does, the badge changes to Connected.
If you missed the call and the code has expired, click Cancel, then connect again to get a fresh code and a new call.
Once connected, the box lists your Number, Connection (Hosted by SalesThumb), the date it was connected, and an MMS (photos) line. MMS shows Enabled or Not available for this number — it reflects what the carrier reports for your number, so photo texts may not work on every number.
If a previous attempt failed, the box says so and shows the reason. Click Try again to start over, or Disconnect to clear it.
Option 2: bring your own Twilio account
Use this if you already have a Twilio account and want Twilio to bill you directly.
- In the Texting box, click Already have a Twilio account? Bring your own →.
- Fill in the three fields from your Twilio Console:
- Account SID — starts with "AC" followed by 32 characters.
- Auth Token — shown next to your Account SID in the Twilio Console.
- From Number — the number on your Twilio account, with a plus sign and country code, no spaces or dashes.
- Click Connect Twilio account. The button stays greyed out until all three fields look valid.
SalesThumb checks the credentials with Twilio before saving them. The connection is refused if your Twilio account isn't active, if the credentials don't work, or if that number is already connected to another location. If you change your mind mid-form, click ← Use SalesThumb's hosted number instead.
Once connected, the Connection line reads Your own Twilio account.
What changes when you use your own Twilio
With your own verified Twilio account connected, your texts are paid for on your Twilio bill, so they don't count against SalesThumb's monthly texting allowance or spend cap. A number SalesThumb text-enabled for you (Option 1) is still covered by your plan's allowance. See Your monthly SMS allowance, the spend cap, and hitting the limit.
Connecting your own Resend account for email
In the same card, under Send email as your business, the Bring Your Own Resend box lets you send email through your own Resend account.
- Click Connect.
- Enter your Resend API Key and a From Address.
- Click Connect & verify.
The from-address's domain must already be verified inside your Resend account, or the connection is refused. Once connected, use Re-verify to re-check it any time. For more on email, see Resend transactional email — your own sending domain.
Disconnecting
Click Disconnect in the Texting or Bring Your Own Resend box. Your saved credentials are removed and the badge goes back to Not connected.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Who can connect or disconnect a texting carrier?
A: Only a shop Owner or Admin. Anyone else who tries gets a message that the action requires the Owner or Admin role.
Q: Do I need a Twilio account to text customers?
A: No. Texting works out of the box through SalesThumb's shared line, and you can have SalesThumb text-enable your existing business number without a Twilio account. Bringing your own Twilio is optional.
Q: What plan do I need?
A: Bringing your own Twilio account works on any plan. Having SalesThumb text-enable your existing number needs the Starter plan or higher.
Q: I missed the verification call. What now?
A: The code on screen expires about 10 minutes after you connect. Click Cancel, then connect again to get a new code and a new call. If the call already came through, click Check status first.
Q: Will my own Twilio texts count against my SalesThumb allowance?
A: No. Once your own Twilio account is connected and verified, those texts are billed by Twilio and skip SalesThumb's monthly allowance and spend cap.
